Marsilio Ficino (1433-1499) was a Florentine philosopher and linguist who had also studied medicine in his youth. His life's achievement was the translation of the works of Plato and other classical Greek authors. Ficino revised the thought of Plato in a Renaissance perspective. His interpretation of Platonism, which is reflected in the letters contained in this volume, greatly influenced European thought for two centuries.
